Step 1: Coursework
This course covers the essential must-know Handling Practices, Ground Work Skills and Practical Knowledge to prepare each student with the understanding, awareness, skills and experience to safely and effectively handle horses, prepare them for the most common situations horses face in domesticated environments and know how to get tasks done in a pinch.
5-Day In-Person Course
Tuition: $2500
During this course students will learn and gain experience covering:
• The PHS Core Foundational Ground Work Exercises
• Safe & Effective Daily Handling Practices & Approaches with Horses in the most Common Daily Handling Situations
• How to use Ground Work to establish or re-establish boundaries with horses that don't understand or know better
• How to Evaluate horses using the PHS Evaluation/Grading Scale
• Preparing & Teaching Horses to Safely be Tied
• Trailer Loading (Proper Preparation & Getting it done in a pinch)
• Feet Handling & Farrier Prep
The Foundation Ridden course teaches students the essential hands-on training skills and knowledge necessary to ensure a horse has a solid foundation in their education setting them up for success regardless of breed, age or discipline desired. This course covers training horses both in the Round Pen and Under Saddle (Ridden) to develop a solid foundation, it builds on the skills and knowledge learned in the Foundation Handling Course and prepares both students and horses for the PHS Obstacle Trails & Versatility Course.

During this course students will learn and gain experience covering:
• The PHS Foundational Round Pen Skills
• The PHS Foundational Foundation Ridden Skills
• How to develop horses Physically, Mentally & Emotionally through proven science & horsemanship based approaches
• How to Evaluate and Progress horses using the PHS Evaluation/Grading Scale
• How to confidently and accurately develop daily, weekly and monthly training plans
• How to prepare horses for the real world experiences and the unexpected
• How to teach the skills, philosophies, approaches and knowledge to clients and students
The 3 Core P's of the Professional Horseman's School is Partnership, Purpose & Performance. Throughout the Obstacles, Trails and Versatility course students will develop the hands on experience necessary to successfully put meaningful purpose to the Foundation Ridden and Ground Work skills they teach each horse they work with. Students will learn how to properly prepare horses mentally, physically and emotionally, introduce them to new and handle unexpected experiences and build their horse's confidence in navigating obstacles faced both in the arena, out of the trail and throughout life.

• How to introduce horses to Obstacles on the Ground (tarps, logs, bridges, teeter totters, etc.)
• How to introduce horses to Obstacles Under Saddle (working a gate, dragging logs, jumps, garrocha, etc.)
• Proper Trail Preparation with Arena Exercises
• Safely and Confidently taking a prepared horse on the trail
• How to navigate unexpected obstacles and situations on the trail
• How to diversify a horse's training plan to keep it fun, fresh and ultimately prepare that horse for a lifetime of experiences
Horsemanship is not just a way to train horses, it is everything we do with our horses. The day-to-day management of horses drastically impacts the level of success a horse will have in training, their overall health and happiness. This course covers the essential skills, knowledge and protocols horsemen and women must know to successfully manage many different types of horses in many different living arrangements so that each horse can be at their healthiest and happiest.

In today's market, it takes more than time in the saddle to develop a successful horse training business. In the Equine Business & Entrepreneurship Course students will learn and implement proven business systems required to scale or start a successful horse training business so that they can book more clients, make more money and keep growing consistently month after month. Unlike other business programs and courses out there, the Equine Business & Entrepreneurship Course does not teach in theory or hypothetical situations. Throughout the course students actively build out their own scalable business and marketing systems that they will continue to use to grow their unique businesses beyond the course. Students complete the course with the knowledge and confidence to conduct their business as a true Professional and stand out from their competition.

Step 2: Proven Fieldwork
Fieldwork is designed to ensure each student can take the skillsets they have learned during the Courses and apply the lessons in real-life training situations. This allows students to get the necessary practice and hands on experience to build their confidence and experience while achieving real hands-on results as they continue furthering their education.
Students are required to document the progression of 10 horses through the Foundation Handling Skills, Foundation Ridden, and Versatility Programs. Students may use the same 10 horses through all Programs or select different horses to progress through each Program. Prior to beginning Fieldwork, each horse must be evaluated and proven to not already have the skills or knowledge that is to be developed during each Program. When the student determines that the horse has achieved proficiency in a Program, the student will submit Final Documentation of the horse’s progress to complete this requirement.
Estimated Completion Time: 3-6months
Step 3: Testing
Upon completing the Coursework and Fieldwork, students are eligible to participate in the Certified Trainers Accreditation Testing. This test is hosted in-person at the PHS facility and includes both a hands-on evaluation with horses AND a written examination covering horse training, care/management and business development.
A minimum score of 80% on both the hands on and written testing is required to pass. Upon passing the testing phase, students are awarded the PHS Certified Trainers Accreditation.
Frequently Asked Questions
PHS is not a horseback riding school, PHS Courses are not designed to teach beginner students how to ride. Students are required to have prior hands-on experience working with horses on the ground and under saddle. They should be able to safely, confidently and with a secure seat walk, trot, and canter on a loose rein on a horse that is green broke.
Upon your Acceptance into the PHS Accredited Trainers Program, an Enrollment Agreement outlining the Program requirements will be emailed to you to review and sign, signifying your commitment to the Program. A $1500 Enrollment Payment is due along with your signed Enrollment Agreement. This Enrollment Payment covers the cost of your Accredited Trainers Testing fees, ability to enroll in PHS Courses at a reduced cost, and access to Priority Registration for all Courses.
Yes! Students enrolled in the Accredited Trainers program can attend ‘Training Weeks’ at PHS where they can come in and get help with specific things they need guidance on.
As a student you are welcome and encouraged to bring up to two (2) of your own horses at no additional cost. If you are unable to bring your own, you must let us know in advance so we can make arrangements to have horses available for you during the courses.
Lodging is not provided in your course tuition costs. We can provide RV hookup options for an additional fee on a first-come-first-serve basis. There are also several nearby Airbnbs, campsites, and hotels within 15 minutes of PHS.
Students should plan on covering all their meals during their time at the PHS for the selected course. There will be times when PHS will host lunches/dinners for students and that will be arranged and communicated on a case-by-case basis.
The program is designed to be completed within 9 months. Students may take longer if needed but may not exceed up to 18 months to complete.
